And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch

This chapter treats the topic of input from and output to streams
using the built-in functions. An overview of the other parts of
the input/output (I/O) system is also given but not discussed in
detail. At the end of the chapter there are sections containing
implementation-specific information for this topic.
